There’s a new deli in the area, and it’s really good!
Located on Rt. 9 in Queensbury, Benny’s Deli has some delicious sandwiches, and creative menu items.
You’ve got classics on the menu, like The Pat, which is roast beef, cheddar cheese, fried onions and Thousand Island dressing served on a hoagie roll. There are also vegetarian options like, The Sandy Bay, which is spinach, pesto, mozzarella, swiss, American & cheddar cheese served on sourdough bread.
But, one of the more interesting menu items are the treadless sandwiches. Finally, a deli that has this option! I’m looking forward to trying the Tomato Club, which is freshly sliced tomatoes, layered with fresh mozzarella, basil leaves and pesto. How good does that sound?
The day I tried Benny’s Deli, I went with a build your own sandwich and opted for shaved turkey breast, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, salt, pepper and mayo served on a hoagie roll that is baked right down the street at Sweet Basils.
Now, let me just say, I am super picky with my deli sandwiches. It’s the benefit, or curse, of growing up in New Jersey, and then working in Staten Island, where there are good delis on almost every corner.
This sandwich made the cut. The meat/cheese ratio was perfect. It had just the right amount of lettuce and tomato, and not too much mayo. Also, which is the ultimate test, it didn’t get soggy in the fridge. I’m not sure what the secret to making that happen is, but the next day when I ate the other half, it was like eating it when it was prepared fresh. Sometimes the veggie get gross and bread gets soggy. Not this sandwich.
It’s nice to have a local deli that makes a good sandwich. Not only to pick up on your way out for a day on the water, but for road trips, lunch or when surprise guests drop by and you need to pick up some sandwiches.
