Wild Walk at The Wild Center in the Adirondacks

The Wild Walk at The Wild Center in the Adirondacks is stunning. A tree-top look of  the Adirondacks with breathtaking views, and unique features that bring you right into nature.

Visitors don’t even realize they are walking above the trees until at one point you turn to your right and left and realize many of the trees are below you.

Dubbed, “a trail across the tree tops,” the structure is really amazing. Everything from the design, to how you walk into the trees without realizing how high you really are, it is pretty impressive.

Also impressive is how long this has been in the works. The plans for this started before the Wild Center opened.

One of the best parts of attending opening day was the ability to meet the makers behind the Wild Walk. It was not only interesting to listen to them talk about the project it during an hour-long panel, but have the opportunity to talk with them one-on-one was really special. You could see how proud they are of the Wild Walk.

The makers are a who’s who of their respective industries. There was one common theme between all of them, they really enjoyed this project. And, it wasn’t an easy project.

For example, they had to build the pieces  and then have them brought to The Wild Center, working in extremely close quarters because they wanted the project to be as minimally invasive as possible and of course the weather – working through one of the roughest winters the region has seen in years.

As for those tree they had to remove, they were all replaced plus. In fact, 56 trees were removed and 150 were planted.

I had the opportunity to talk with Chip, the designer of the Wild Walk, and hopefully you can see from the video how truly excited he was that this came to fruition.

Here are some photos from the day, but the best way to see it is really in person. It’s very impressive. I can’t wait to go back!
