Fall Treats at Bouchon Bakery in New York

I was in the Time Warner Center yesterday afternoon and before leaving I knew I just had to grab a cup of coffee at Bouchon Bakery on the third floor. The coffee I order is nothing fancy, but always has a rich flavor. While standing in the 10-minute line, I spotted these:

That’s when I realized I never had a macaron before. Since Bouchon always has seasonal treats, I decided to try a cranberry and a pumpkin.

The pumpkin was amazing. It had the perfect spice balance and the pumpkin flavor … well, it was basically exactly what you would think something pumpkin should taste like. The cranberry was very mild, especially compared to the pumpkin.

I had them in my purse, so they got a little crushed.

I also picked up a mini stout bread that ended up becoming my dinner because I got stuck at work for a news special until 9 p.m. It was really good — moist and flavorful while still being light and not overpowering.

My only surprise was the bill. The two macarons, coffee and the bread were $14, which I guess wasn’t too bad, but still pricy enough.
