Reason #259 Why I Love Trader Joe’s: Sweet & Salty Dark Chocolate Almonds

Every Friday on my way back home, I stop at the Trader Joe’s to pick up my gluten-free bread. This time I decided to take a stroll through their chocolate section. Big mistake! My new reason for loving their store? Sea salt and turbinado sugar sprinkled dark chocolate almonds.

Oh my gosh, they are amazing. It’s the perfect combination of sweet, salty and chocolately, and they are rich, so one or two hits the spot, unlike other sweets that you may be tempted to sit and eat the whole bag of.

And, the nutritional value also works in your favor — a serving is 13 pieces, and there is no way you could eat 13 at one time. {throughout the day, maybe ๐Ÿ˜‰ } The price — $3.99 — isn’t bad either, considering a package of dark chocolate Dove pieces hovers between $3.99 and $5.99, depending on where you purchase it.

I also picked up two other dark chocolates while I was there — Trader Joe’s dark chocolate caramel wedges and their dark chocolate covered powerberries.

There’s a slightly funny story about the caramel wedges. The first time I bought them — at the start of the summer — I put them in the car and drove back home. When I got here, I had chocolate caramel soup — they had completely melted. I them in the fridge and had to eat with a spoon. Ooopppss…

These have become another favorite, too. While they look thick, when you take a bite out of them, it tastes you’re eating shaved pieces of chocolate accompanied by a rich caramel. For what they are, they’re also priced decently at $3.49.

The powerberries, also $3.49, sound like the perfect snack: real fruit juice pieces made with acai, pomegranate, cranberry and blueberry juices and dipped in smooth dark chocolate. They were good, but I was a little disappointed and will likely not buy them again. Each ball reminded me of a chocolate covered raisin, which just wasn’t what I want to spend calories on.

Each of these are gluten free, unlike something you may grab at the checkout while paying for your groceries, I can pronounce every single one of the ingredients.

  1. I am with you, nothing beats almonds and chocolate! Those really look good. I came over from the Sunday Social blog hop and a new follower of your blog thru GFC, Facebook and Twitter. I would love a follow back on all three when you get a chance. Thanks so much and have a great week!
