I wanted to make fast and quick Halloween cupcakes, but also wanted to dress them up some. So to save time we used a devils food cake mix and milk chocolate frosting from a container. Personally I prefer to use Duncan Hines when I’m using a box mix. They seem to come the most moist and the frosting isn’t overly sweet.
For half the cupcakes, we took gummy worms, cut them, twisted them and placed them into the chocolate frosting to make it look like they were coming out of the cupcakes. The other half, we bought large gumballs made to look like an eye, plopped them in the center of the cupcake and then used red sugar to coat the rest of the cupcake.
Decorating them took less than a half hour.
