Garlic Bakery Rolls

When my dad comes to visit his HAS to have hard rolls from the Lake George Baking Company for breakfast. The problem? He buys too many and the birdies end up getting a really expensive treat. So, while making dinner the other night and forgetting to pick up garlic bread, I figured why not use up the rolls.

Much of this goes by taste, so if you like a lot of something add some more, if you like a little less of a spice don’t put as much. I made two different ones – basic and spicy. Same idea goes for the butter, you can put as little or as much as you like. I use a thin coat of Smart Balance on mine, but a thicker coat for my Dad.

Basic Garlic Rolls

1 hard roll
Smart Balance (or butter or margarine)
Garlic Powder
Parsley

Heat oven to 350.

Slice the roll in half. Spread the Smart Balance on, covering to the edges. Sprinkle on some garlic powder and parsley. Take a little more Smart Balance and spread it on top of the spices, mixing the spices into the butter that was already on the roll.

Spicy Garlic Rolls

1 hard roll
Smart Balance
Crushed hot pepper
Garlic powder
Parsley
Fresh ground pepper
Parmesan cheese

Follow the same directions as above, but add the hot pepper and freshly ground pepper. I like mine spicy, so I put a lot on. Remember – it’s all about your personal taste.

Put in the oven for about 5 minutes. Depending on the size of the roll, it may need more or less time, so keep an eye on them while they are in the oven. Remove from oven when they are golden brown.
