Bruce Springsteen

Last night I got to see Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band for the first time. Yeah, I know, almost everyone in the world has seen him, so what’s the big deal?

Well, for me, this was huge, and meant so much. I’ve been to tons of shows, but every time Bruce came around there was always a roadblock that prevented me from going. I thought I was never going to get to see him.

He was one of only several performers left on my list.

Just as a little background, I really have to credit two of my former (and best) bosses for turning me onto Bruce’s music. I always knew Bruce and his songs, but my Jersey alliance seemed to lean more toward Bon Jovi. Then, I started working at a hotel during college, and those two bosses were crazy Bruce fans. The more I hung around them, the more I developed an appreciation for his music.

So, Friday afternoon when I got a text message from my friend Janet while driving upstate asking, “Do you want to see Bruce?” – I was bouncing around like a little kid on Christmas morning, and was ready to turn my car right back around.

He was expected to play just his Born in the USA album at Giants Stadium, but he completely diverted, and played every song I wanted to hear, including “Born to Run” and “Jersey Girl.”

Bruce, and The E Street Band are one of those acts, that even if you don’t know their music, you have to see them at least once, because their musicianship and music are just so damn good.

Can’t wait to see him again! 🙂
