Whenever I travel I always look for the local winery, brewery, bakery or any “homemade” kind of place. I think it’s important to support local businesses when you can, especially in a small community, like Lake George, that relies on tourism, as well as the “locals” to support them.
The Adirondack Winery and Tasting Room is an award-winning micro-winery that opened in the heart of Lake George Village on Canada Street a few years ago. It’s run by husband and wife team Michael and Sasha Pardy.
They offer $5 tastings and you get to keep the glass (a huge plus for me and my friends!). They just don’t pour you a sip, they chat, answer questions and interact with their customers.
The wine is excellent, and a stop at their shop should be a must on any visit to the Lake George area. Anytime someone comes to visit I take them there, and they’ve all brought at least one bottle of wine home with them. (One even bought a case!)
They can ship to more than a dozen states and also do customized labels.
My favs: Prospect Mountain White, Blueberry Twilight, Red Barn and Cabernet Franc.
